Zach Wilson Traded to Denver Broncos

Jets Move on from Former No. 2 Overall Pick

Broncos Bolster Quarterback Depth with Wilson Acquisition

The New York Jets have traded quarterback Zach Wilson to the Denver Broncos, the team announced Tuesday. The move comes after months of speculation about Wilson's future with the Jets, who selected him second overall in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Wilson struggled in his two seasons with the Jets, throwing for just 4,022 yards, 26 touchdowns, and 23 interceptions. He was benched in favor of Mike White late in the 2022 season.

The Broncos are in need of a quarterback after trading away Russell Wilson to the Miami Dolphins earlier this month. Aaron Rodgers has been linked to the Broncos, but he is expected to remain with the Green Bay Packers.

Wilson will compete with Brett Rypien and Josh Johnson for the starting quarterback job in Denver. He will have a chance to prove that he can be a franchise quarterback in a new environment.

The Jets receive an undisclosed draft pick in return for Wilson. The trade frees up salary cap space for the Jets, who are expected to be aggressive in free agency this offseason.
