Mallorca Deutscher Tourist Faellt Beim Balconing Vom Balkon

Mallorca: German Tourist Dies in Balconing Incident

What is Balconing?

Balconing is a dangerous activity where people jump from balconies into swimming pools or other bodies of water. It is often done under the influence of alcohol and is a major safety concern.

It is illegal in Spain and is often associated with excessive alcohol consumption and a lack of awareness of the risks involved.

Why is Balconing Dangerous?

  • The balconies are often not designed to withstand the impact of a person jumping from them.
  • The water may be too shallow or have obstacles that can cause serious injury or death.
  • People who are under the influence of alcohol are more likely to make mistakes and misjudge the risks involved.

How to Prevent Balconing

  • Avoid drinking alcohol to excess, especially when on a balcony.
  • Be aware of the risks involved in balconing and never do it, even as a joke.
  • If you see someone who is about to balkon, try to stop them and call for help if necessary.

What to Do if You Witness a Balconing Incident

If you witness someone who has fallen from a balcony, call for emergency services immediately.

Do not attempt to move the person yourself, as this could further injure them.

Stay with the person and try to keep them calm until help arrives.

Balconing Statistics

In 2022, there were 13 reported cases of balconing in Mallorca, resulting in 11 deaths.

The majority of victims were young male tourists between the ages of 18 and 30.

The most common location for balconing incidents was Magaluf, a popular party destination on the island.
